§1 Who We Are

ScreenBudget is a screen time budgeting tool for families, operated by Polsia ("we," "us," or "our"). We provide parents and guardians with tools to set per-site time budgets on their children's devices.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and how it's protected. By using ScreenBudget, you agree to this policy.

§2 What Data We Collect

We collect only what's needed to make ScreenBudget work. Here's exactly what that is:

Parent/Guardian Account Data

Child Profile Data

Usage Data

Important: We only track time on sites that have an active budget configured by the parent. Unbudgeted sites are not logged, tracked, or stored.

We do not collect:

§3 Chrome Extension Data

The ScreenBudget Chrome extension runs on your child's browser to enforce time budgets. Here's what the extension does:

The extension connects to your ScreenBudget account using a secure token stored in Chrome's local extension storage. It does not store browsing data locally beyond the current session's tab activity.

Only budgeted sites are tracked. If a site has no budget configured, the extension ignores it entirely. No data is sent to our servers for non-budgeted sites.

The extension does not execute on any page for unauthenticated users. If the parent's account is deleted, the extension stops sending data immediately.

§4 How We Store Your Data

All data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Neon (a managed cloud database provider). Here's how we protect it:

Our application server is hosted on Render in the United States. Data is stored and processed in the United States.

§5 Who Has Access

Access to your family's data is strictly limited:

We will disclose data if required by law (e.g., a valid legal order), but we will notify affected users whenever legally permitted to do so.

§6 COPPA & Children's Privacy

ScreenBudget is designed for parents and guardians, not for children to use directly. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

We do not collect personal information directly from children. Children do not create accounts on ScreenBudget. Only the parent or legal guardian creates an account and configures the settings.

The data associated with a "child profile" is created and controlled entirely by the parent/guardian. The child's name you enter is a label for your own reference — it is not verified, and you may use a nickname or alias.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13 without parental consent, please contact us immediately at screenbudget@polsia.app and we will delete it promptly.

§7 Data Retention

We retain your data as follows:

§8 Deleting Your Account & Data

You have the right to delete your data at any time.

To delete a child profile: Go to your Dashboard → select the child → click "Delete Profile." All usage data for that child is deleted immediately.

To delete your account: Email screenbudget@polsia.app with the subject "Delete My Account." We will permanently delete your account and all associated data (child profiles, usage history, email address) within 5 business days. You'll receive a confirmation email when it's done.

Note: We cannot recover deleted accounts. Billing records (transaction IDs only) may be retained as required by law.

§9 Third-Party Services

ScreenBudget uses a small set of trusted third-party services to operate:

None of these providers receive child usage or browsing data. They receive only what's necessary to operate their specific service (e.g., Stripe receives your email and payment details for billing).
